ExxonMobil Futsal in Linden resumes with key group stage fixtures

The fast-paced action of the New Era Entertainment-coordinated ExxonMobil Guyana Futsal Championship resumes tonight at the Retrieve Tarmac in Linden, promising more goals and drama following an explosive opening round.

Tournament Coordinator Aubrey Major Jr confirmed that the first night was marked by huge scorelines and an “electric atmosphere,” despite some developing teams receiving a “thumping.”

The event, which pits 16 teams into a group stage format with the top two advancing, heads into a crucial evening of fixtures that could shape the quarter-final bracket.

The night’s schedule features a key Group B encounter when defending champions YMCA A—who romped to a 10-2 victory in their opener—take on Figgy FC at 20:30h.

A win for the champions would solidify their place at the top of the group.

The evening closes with a tough Group D clash as Team Salah locks horns with tournament newcomers Stabroek (22:30h), who registered a staggering 19-4 victory in their first match, led by an eight-goal haul from Bevney Marks.

The action kicks off with Bombers facing YMCA B (18:30h), followed by Foundation Family opposing Westside Ballers (19:30h). The Hard-knocks versus Hardball Management game at 21:30h is expected to be a tightly contested Group A battle.

The stakes remain exceptionally high, emphasizing the tournament’s importance in local football:

  • The eventual winner will take home $ 1.5 million.
  • The runner-up receives $750,000, with third and fourth place collecting $350,000 and $200,000, respectively.
  • The Most Valuable Player (MVP) will be awarded a motorcycle, and a $300,000 academic grant will be available to a deserving player or fan, underscoring the organizers’ commitment to holistic development.

The group stage action continues at the same venue on Friday as teams fight to secure their place in the knockout rounds.
