‘Zero-tolerance for smuggling’ – Prison Director

Director of Prisons, Nicklon Elliot is sending a clear message- corruption will not be tolerated in the prison system and anyone caught trying to smuggle contraband will face the full force of the law.

During an interview with the News Room recently, Elliot said that in recent months, the Prison Service has aggressively intensified searches across all facilities, leading to the discovery of several improvised weapons and contraband items.

“Every time we search, there is a reduction in these items,” he explained, noting that the stepped-up efforts are making a measurable impact.

The crackdown is not limited to inmates.

Over the past two years, Elliot said both civilians and prison officers have been charged for attempting to smuggle items into the prisons.

Elliot urged the public to distance themselves from any scheme that could fuel the contraband trade.

“We have a zero-tolerance policy, I have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to corruption involving prisons or officers.

“I want to assure the public that we are doing our best to ensure that contraband is reduced significantly from the prison,” he said.
