Thomas Dooley has begun his tenure as Guyana Head Coach with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Bonaire, marking a winning start to the Golden Jaguars’ CONCACAF Friendly Series (CFS) campaign.
The win, secured last night at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in St. John’s, Antigua, provided a critical confidence boost for a team aiming to establish a “new mentality” under the former US international.
Guyana, competing in the new CFS tournament designed to provide vital international match play, struck early through the fast feet of Stephen Duke-McKenna, who scored in the fifth minute to give the Golden Jaguars the ideal start.
Bonaire, however, rallied to find an equaliser before half-time, sending the match into the interval locked at 1–1 and setting up a competitive second half.
The decisive moment came in the 77th minute when Osaze DeRosario restored Guyana’s lead.
His goal proved enough to seal the 2–1 victory and secure the opening three points of the series.
The Golden Jaguars will now turn their attention to their next assignment on Tuesday, 18 November, when they face Antigua and Barbuda at the same venue.
Kick-off is set for 19:00 local time.
