Guyana Harpy Eagles’ chances of making the final of the CG United Super50 Cup took a massive blow on Friday when their second round match against the Windward Islands Volcanoes was washed out without a ball bowled.
The two teams had to settle for an equal share of the points after rain made the outfield at UWI SPEC unfit for play. So dire was the situation that the game was called off before lunch.
Also with a no-result from their opening game against Jamaica Scorpions, Harpy Eagles are now in a precarious position, possibly having to win all their remaining three games with adequate bonus points to finish in the top two.
The top two teams after the round-robin stage will contest the final on November 29.
Harpy Eagles will be back in action on Sunday against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in a day/night encounter at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, starting at 14:00h.
In the other completed game on Friday, Barbados Pride defeated Leeward Islands Hurricanes by seven wickets at Queen’s Park Oval.
Hurricanes recovered from 14-6 to post 138, and Pride responded with 139-3 from 23.3 overs.
SUMMARY: Leeward Islands Hurricanes 138 all out from 25.1 overs (Nathan Edward 49, Jahmar Hamilton 45; Akeem Jordan 5-29, Joshua Bishop 3-50) vs Barbados Pride 139-3 from 23.3 overs (Zachary McCaskie 60, Kyle Mayers 55; Nathan Edward 2-28)
