Dylan Fields holds a narrow lead at the Guyana National Rifle Association (GuyanaNRA) Fullbore National Championships after a tense opening day of long-range competition at the Timehri Rifle Ranges.
The annual championship, which serves as a crucial staging post for the national team’s regional preparation, saw shooters tackle targets at 300, 500, and 600 yards on the first day.
Fields leads the table with a day aggregate of 128.3 (128 points with 3 V-bulls), but the contest remains wide open.
The leader is only three points clear of the immediate chasing pack, led by Sherwin Felicien (125.8) and veteran marksman Lennox Braithwaite (125.5), with the latter two separated only by V-bull count.
Felicien was one of two shooters to record a coveted ‘possible’—a perfect score—during the day’s action, achieving a maximum 35.1 at the 500-yard range. He was joined in that accomplishment by Peter Persaud, who also shot a 35.3 at 500 yards.
In the Junior Class, Kay-Ann Ghanie is the lone female competitor, maintaining a determined effort with an aggregate score of 100.1 on the opening day.
The domestic championship, which continues this Sunday and concludes on November 30, is being used to fine-tune the nation’s best shooters ahead of a busy international schedule.
The results will inform the team selection for the 2026 West Indies Fullbore Shooting Championships, set to be held in Antigua & Barbuda from April 25 to May 1.
Adding further competitive intensity, the Guyanese squad will also host a visiting 20-member English Rifle Team for a friendly match one week before the West Indies Championships.
Competition resumes today with shooters tackling the demanding 900-yard range.
