Guyana’s Senior Women’s National Team, the Lady Jags, will kick off their quest for a spot at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup by hosting Nicaragua on Monday, December 1, as the 2025/26 Concacaf W Qualifiers get underway.
The eagerly anticipated clash will take place at the National Track and Field Facility, West Coast Demerara, as the Lady Jags aim to secure an early advantage in their challenging Group B campaign.
Match time is scheduled for 20:00h.
The Lady Jags, currently ranked 12th in Concacaf, find themselves in a competitive five-team Group B, which features regional powerhouse Jamaica, Nicaragua, Dominica, and Antigua and Barbuda.
Jamaica (5th in Concacaf) is the highest-ranked team in the group and is expected to pose the stiffest challenge, while Guyana starts as the second-highest-ranked team.
Nicaragua (18th) sits just below the Lady Jags, while Antigua and Barbuda (19th) and Dominica (27th) complete the group.
The winner of Group B will secure one of the six spots available for the 2026 Concacaf W Championship, where they will join the automatically qualified regional giants, the United States and Canada.
The Championship is the final stage of qualification for both the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 and the 2028 LA Summer Olympics.
The 2025/26 Concacaf W Qualifiers will see 29 Member Associations compete across three FIFA Women’s International Match Windows: November 2025, February 2026, and April 2026.
Each team will play two home and two away matches.
The last time the Senior Lady Jags competed was in February 2024, where they suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat to the Dominican Republic in a play-off for a spot in the Gold Cup.
