Police ranks in Regional Division #6 are investigating the discovery of a suspected illegal firearm and ammunition found early Sunday at the Leisure Inn Hotel and Bar in New Amsterdam, Berbice.
The incident occurred around 02:00 hrs on November 23, 2025. According to initial information, a 24-year-old male security guard attached to the hotel found a Taurus pistol with a magazine loaded with nine live rounds inside the male washroom on the lower flat of the building.
He immediately notified his supervisor, who then contacted police.
Ranks subsequently visited the scene, where the weapon and ammunition were photographed, secured, and lodged as part of ongoing enquiries.
No arrests have been made, and investigations are continuing.
