Red Force beat Harpy Eagles in rain-affected Super50 contest

Guyana Harpy Eagles’ campaign in the CG United Super50 Cup went further downhill on Sunday as they suffered a six-run loss to Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in third round action at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in South Trinidad.

In a rain-affected day/night encounter, reduced to 44 overs per side due to a delayed start, Harpy Eagles made 196 all out from 40.3 overs. When rain ended the contest, Red Force were 106-4 from 21.2 overs, six runs ahead of the Duckworth/Lewis/Stern par score.

The defeat for Harpy Eagles followed two no-result games against Jamaica Scorpions and Windward Islands Volcanoes and all but ended their hopes of finishing in the top-two to claim a place in the final on November 29.

Harpy Eagles were in control defending the total, reducing the home side to 65-4 by the 18th over with Cephas Cooper (12), Joshua DaSilva (10), Yannic Cariah (2) and Jason Mohammed (15) all back in the dugout.

However, with Tion Webster anchoring one end, Jyd Goolie went berserk in the 21st over, launching debutant seamer Sylus Tyndall for three sixes and a four in an over that yielded 24 runs.

It proved very decisive in the eventual outcome as rain came two balls into the 22nd over with Red Force ahead. Webster made 31* off 54 (5x4s), while Goolie was unbeaten on 29 off 18 (1×4, 3x6s).

Off-spinner Junior Sinclair was Harpy Eagles’ best bowler with 2-21.

Earlier, Gudakesh Motie struck an attacking 65, his highest List A score, to lift Harpy Eagles from a precarious position of 54-5 in the 16th over. The left-hander faced 58 balls and struck six fours and three sixes.

Keemo Paul slammed three sixes in 39 off 40, while Ronaldo Alimohamed made 25 off 21 (3x4s, 1×6) and Kemol Savory 20 off 42 (1×4, 1×6).

Harpy Eagles’ top-order fell cheaply with Raymond Perez (11), Matthew Nandu (2), Kevlon Anderson (2) and Mavendra Dindyal (1) all dismissed by the 11th over with just 21 runs on the board.

Bowling for Red Force, Terrance Hinds picked up 3-18 and Ricky Jaipaul impressed with 3-29.

Harpy Eagles remaining games are against Leeward Islands Hurricanes (November 25) and Barbados Pride (November 27).

In the other two third round matches on Sunday, Leeward Islands Hurricanes and Jamaica Scorpions had to share points after a complete washout at UWI SPEC, while Barbados Pride defeated Windward Islands Volcanoes by seven wickets at Queen’s Park Oval.

SUMMARY: Windward Islands Volcanoes 137 all out from 37.2 overs (Teddy Bishop 28, Johann Jeremiah 26, Stephan Pascal 22, Shadrack Descarte 21, Sunil Ambris 20; Kemar Smith 5-25, Javed Leacock 2-22) vs Barbados Pride 138-3 from 24.1 overs (Kraigg Brathwaite 59*, Zachary McCaskie 47; Kenneth Dember 2-36)
