A Corentyne market vendor and her family were left traumatised on Monday night after two armed bandits stormed their Brighton Village home, held her disabled children at gunpoint, and escaped with more than $700,000 in cash.
Speaking with the News Room on Tuesday, Seewatee Seecharran said the ordeal began around 18:50 hrs as she relaxed in a hammock in her living room with her family nearby. She recalled hearing what sounded like someone talking inside the house. Confused, she asked her 18-year-old son if he heard anything, but he said no.
“I ignored it and went back to preparing dinner,” Seewatee said. “Then suddenly I hear, ‘Nobody is to holler.’”
When she looked up, two men—one masked, the other unmasked—were standing inside her home, both armed with guns.
What followed, she said, was a terrifying attack. The masked bandit held her disabled son at gunpoint on the lower flat of their two-storey house, while the unmasked man confronted her and demanded money. She initially told them she had none, but they insisted.
Fearing for her family’s lives, she handed over $300,000, savings from her sales at the Rose Hall Market. The men demanded more, and shaking with fear, she retrieved additional cash—bringing the total stolen to more than $700,000. Part of the money, she said, was set aside to pay instalments on two vehicles she owns.

After the men escaped through the back door and yard, Seewatee rushed to check on her children. That was when she discovered her 24-year-old disabled daughter bleeding heavily.
“When me son put on the light, me see me daughter whole face red, red with blood and me start holler. Like them burst she head and me na get life fuh move,” she said.
The vendor, devastated and frustrated, said this is the second time her family has been robbed.
“It really hard. Is two time now we get robbed. All the money we had, we give them. Me does do business and me nah get no money to turn over. Every day me does throw box hand,” she lamented.
Police investigations are ongoing.
