Man, 36, dies after alleged attack by relative during yard argument at Supply

A 36-year-old man died on Monday night after he was attacked by a male relative during an argument at their shared yard at Supply, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.

Dead is Ray Sheoraj, called “Redman,” of Supply, Mahaica. Police in Regional Division 4 ‘C’ said the incident occurred around 23:00 hrs on November 24, 2025.

According to investigators, Sheoraj was at his home in the company of several people when an argument erupted between him and a 62-year-old male relative who lives in the same yard. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly used a sharp object to inflict a wound to Sheoraj’s left leg.

Police said the injured man attempted to tend to the wound but later collapsed in the upper flat of the house. He was rushed to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

A cutlass and a chopper, believed to have been used in the attack, were recovered at the scene and lodged as evidence.

The suspect fled the yard shortly after the incident, and searches are ongoing for his arrest.

Two men who were present at the time of the altercation—a 45-year-old labourer of Belmont, Mahaica, and a 38-year-old labourer of Supply, Mahaica—have been detained and remain in police custody.

A 29-year-old female relative, who reportedly sustained a minor injury during the dispute, is receiving medical attention.

Sheoraj’s body has been taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.

Police investigations are continuing.
