Police in Region Two are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of 17-year-old Naomi Singh on Sunday afternoon along the Riverstown Public Road, Essequibo Coast.
The accident occurred at about 17:00 hrs and involved motor car PXX 3695, driven by Singh of Huist Dieren, and motorcycle CP 7725, ridden by a 24-year-old man from Pomona Housing Scheme.
According to initial reports, both vehicles were travelling in opposite directions on the north–south corridor when the collision occurred. The motorcyclist told police that Singh’s vehicle suddenly veered into his path, leading to the impact.
The force of the crash sent the car into a utility pole before it spun several times and came to a stop on the roadway.
Singh suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body has been placed in the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
The motorcyclist attempted to flee but was caught shortly after. He is currently in custody assisting investigators and reportedly refused a breathalyser test.
Both vehicles have been lodged at the Suddie Police Station as police review CCTV footage and continue their investigations.
