Silver Bullets dethrone YMCA to win ExxonMobil Futsal after dramatic penalty shootout

Silver Bullets have clinched the ExxonMobil Guyana Futsal Championship, dramatically defeating holders YMCA 2-0 on penalty kicks following a sensational 5-5 draw in the final at the Retrieve Tarmac on Saturday evening.

In front of a packed and raucous crowd, the two sides delivered an end-to-end goal fest, but ultimately, it was the nerve of the new champions that proved the difference in the decisive shootout.

The match was a showcase of attacking futsal, with both teams scoring five times in regulation.

For Silver Bullets, Omar Williams netted a crucial brace, supported by single strikes from Rodensio Tudor, Colwyn Drakes, and Sigmund Cobena.

YMCA matched their opponents blow-for-blow, with Keyshawn Dey and Kevin Gittens both contributing two goals apiece, and Kymani Sealey adding one.

With the scores locked at 5-5 after the final whistle, the match proceeded straight to penalties to decide the title.

Each team was granted three shootout attempts, but Silver Bullets proved clinical while YMCA struggled to find the target.

Silver Bullets (1-0): Omar Williams, taking the first kick, slotted his effort straight down the centre to give his side the lead.

YMCA (1-0): Keyshawn Dey, a double scorer in the game, saw his crucial opening attempt crash against the crossbar.

Silver Bullets (2-0): Damion Williams stepped up and emphatically blasted his shot into the top-left corner, doubling the advantage.

YMCA (2-0): Needing a goal to stay in contention, Jermaine Padmore suffered the same fate as Dey, firing his effort onto the crossbar, sealing the championship for Silver Bullets.

The victory sees Silver Bullets claim the championship trophy and a top prize of G$1,500,000, while YMCA take home G$750,000 as runners-up. The Silver Bullets goalkeeper was named the Tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) and was awarded a motorcycle.

In the earlier third-place playoff, Hard-knocks secured the bronze medal in another high-scoring encounter, edging past DC Ballers 9-8.

Dexter Milo and Kemani Field both recorded hat-tricks for Hard-knocks, who earned G$350,000. Andre Mayers was the standout player for DC Ballers, scoring an incredible six goals in a losing effort, with his side receiving G$200,000.
