Ganesh Racktoo, 55, of Lot 365 Enmore, East Coast Demerara, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a hit-and-run incident on October 25 that left a local man dead.
The fatal collision occurred around 17:50hrs on the Enmore Access Road when 43-year-old Charran Suresh of Newtown, Enmore, was struck by a northbound mini-bus while standing on the eastern side of the roadway. The driver reportedly fled the scene without rendering assistance.
Suresh was initially treated at the Enmore Regional Hospital before being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for further care, where he later died from his injuries.
Racktoo was arrested on Monday, November 24, nearly four weeks after the incident, following a public appeal by police for information about the driver. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue.
