Mon Repos businesswoman arrested after smashing canter window, mirror with metal pipe

Police are investigating an unusual case of malicious damage to property at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, after a woman allegedly struck a motor canter with a metal pipe during the Wednesday morning rush.

The ordeal unfolded at about 07:10hrs along Mon Repos School Road. According to information received, a motor canter bearing registration GAC 7299, driven by a 49-year-old man from Good Hope, was heading north when it briefly encountered motorcar PAG 4521, driven by a 42-year-old businesswoman from Mon Repos North, travelling south.

After the brief roadway encounter, both drivers continued in their respective directions. However, moments later, while the canter driver waited at the nearby traffic light, the woman stopped her vehicle, exited with a metal pipe, and reportedly struck the canter, smashing a window glass and damaging the right-side rear-view mirror.

The businesswoman was later arrested and taken to the Mon Repos Police Outpost, where she remains in custody as investigators work to determine the circumstances that led to the confrontation.

Police say investigations are ongoing.
