Festival City woman struck and dies on pedestrian crossing along Aubrey Barker Road

A 50-year-old Festival City woman was struck and killed on Thursday afternoon while using a pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Aubrey Barker Road and Blue Mountain Road, Georgetown.

Dead is Shondell Dundas of Festival City.

Police reported that the accident occurred at around 12:00 hrs and involved motor car PAJ 9875, driven by a 32-year-old salesman from Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt.

Initial investigations indicate the vehicle was heading east along the southern drive lane of the northern carriageway of Aubrey Barker Road—commonly referred to as the Four Lane Road—when it reached the Blue Mountain Road intersection and collided with Dundas, who was on the pedestrian crossing at the time. The car was reportedly travelling at a fast rate of speed.

Dundas sustained severe head and body injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor. Her body was later taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.

The driver was given a breathalyser test, returning readings of 0.003 and 0.004 micrograms of alcohol, and was subsequently taken into custody. The vehicle has since been lodged at the station for examination.

Police said CCTV cameras in the area captured the incident, and the footage is being reviewed as investigations continue.
