An internal investigation is underway into the recent deaths of 36-year-old Latoya Griffith and her newborn at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. This is according to the Regional Health Officer (RHO), Dr Vineshri Khirodhar.
During the Region Six Regional Democratic Council’s monthly meeting on Thursday, Dr Khirodhar outlined the steps required before the investigation can be concluded.
She explained, “The internal investigation has to be done by the hospital; this investigation has to be furnished to myself and to the Chief Medical Officer, who is the highest authority in the medical system of this country.”
Dr Khirodhar also noted that the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Narine Singh, will be required to conduct a separate investigation before assessing the findings, which will then be forwarded to the RHO.
“When the CMO deliberates and makes this decision, then the RHO is given the liberty to speak through the Chairman to speak to anyone,” she stated.
Dr Khirodhar further indicated that she will be meeting with the CMO on Friday to conduct the deliberations.
