A 36-year-old woman from Good Hope, East Coast Demerara, has been arrested and placed on station bail after a late-night disturbance escalated into an alleged assault on a senior Police rank at Lusignan on Thursday.
Police said ranks responded at around 19:30 hrs to reports of disorderly behaviour at a private school in Lusignan. Upon arrival, the woman was seen armed with a baseball bat and confronting two persons at the premises. She was warned about her conduct and subsequently left the scene.
The two individuals involved—a 34-year-old businessman of Annandale West and a 23-year-old woman of Lusignan—later reported the matter at the Lusignan Police Outpost.
While Police were addressing their complaint, the same woman allegedly turned up at their Lusignan address and again began acting in a disorderly manner. Ranks responded, and while attempting to arrest her, she reportedly resisted and assaulted a Police Inspector, injuring the rank and damaging her uniform.
Additional support was summoned and the suspect was subdued, arrested, and taken into custody at the Outpost.
The Inspector received medical attention and was treated for her injuries.
The suspect has been granted station bail and is expected to appear before the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 8 December 2025. She will face several charges, including Abusive Language, Disorderly Behaviour, Assault, Damage to Property, Assault Causing Bodily Harm, and Resisting Arrest.
Investigations are ongoing.
