Dharry to face Kassim of Tanzania for IBO Super Bantamweight title on February 15 in Guyana

USA-based Guyanese boxer Elton Dharry is set to fight for the IBO Super Bantamweight World Title at the Pegasus Hotel and Corporate Suites on February 15, 2026.

Dharry will step up from 115lbs to 122lbs for the crucial clash against Salmin Kassim of Tanzania.

The 40-year-old Dharry has a professional record of 30-6-1, while 22-year-old Kassim has an unbeaten record of 10-0-2.

President of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) Peter Abdool said securing a world title bout for Dharry has been ‘a long time in the making.’

“He won the WBA Gold Title with the hope of getting a shot at that title- it didn’t happen. He won the WBC International title with the hope of getting a shot at that title- it didn’t happen,” Abdool recalled.

“Boxing negotiations are never easy, they’re always difficult and I always say you’re never positive about a fight until you see two fighters in the ring. But finally I can say we’ve been able to ink a deal with the IBO.”

Abdool described Dharry’s opponent Kassim as “a young aggressive fighter.”

“He’s young and upcoming, 22 years old. He’s got a beautiful left jab. The last fight that I saw him in, his opponent had to quit at the end of the fourth round, couldn’t answer the bell.”

For Abdool, the fight is a clash of youth and experience with Dharry prepared to box of out his comfort weight to accomplish his long-desired goal of a world title.

“Elton Dharry won all his titles at 115lbs, which is Super Fly, so he’s actually going up in weight by seven pounds to fight a young fighter full of vim and vigour and who is literally half his age,” the GBBC boss asserted.

“It’s going to be an incredible fight in terms of having a young, hungry fighter who has knockout power against a skilled, seasoned fighter who is looking to at last land a world title for Guyana.”

The Pegasus Suites and Corporate Centre has been designated the venue for the title fight being promoted by the GBBC, in association with Nexgen Global Promotions.

Chief Executive Officer of Pegasus Robert Badal and Director Brandon Badal shared their enthusiasm about hosting the prestigious card, adding that various packages will be made available to patrons to witness the fights live.

Labelling the hotel as a homegrown brand widely known for its hospitality services, the leading executives welcomed the staging of the prestigious event that aligns with its world-class service.

The hotel’s piazza (fountain area) will be transformed into a boxing arena with accommodation for 4,000 persons. Conference rooms and elevated spaces will be utilised to house spectators, with companies and individuals being targeted.

The other known fight confirmed for the card is a novelty clash between social media personalities Mikhail Rodrigues (The Guyanese Critic) and Bradley Sampson (Doggie).

Sampson said he is eyeing a TKO over Rodrigues, who has not yet officially commented on the fight, but the organisers have confirmed that the bout is definitely on.
