Man jailed after illegal firearms seized in Karasabai 

A 42-year-old farmer has been fined and jailed after two illegal firearms were seized in the Karasabai Village, South Pakaraimas, recently.

According to a Police release, ranks from the Karasabai Police Station responded to a simple larceny report and found the firearms.

As part of the investigation, Police ranks proceeded to a residence at Jawarie Village, South Pakaraimas, where investigations conducted resulted in a search of the premises.

It was noted that one .36 gauge shotgun and one 20 gauge shotgun were discovered in a bedroom area during the search. Gerald Isaacs, a 42-year-old farmer from the village, was arrested and escorted, along with the firearms, to the Lethem Police Station.

The suspect was placed into custody, and the firearms were lodged as investigations continued.

Subsequent to the investigation, Isaacs was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm without a licence, contrary to Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05.

On Monday, he appeared at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan, where the charges were read, and he pleaded guilty to both counts.

He was fined $50,000 and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment on the first count, and fined $50,000 and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment on the second count.
