250 employment opportunities provided by new AC Marriott Hotel

The newly constructed AC Marriott Hotel at Ogle, East Coast Demerara (ECD), permanently employs a total of 250 persons, of which 98% is Guyanese. This was revealed by the franchise holder, Trinuyana Investments Incorporated’s John Aboud.

Aboud noted that employees have undergone and continue to undergo rigorous training in the hospitality sector, and he welcomed capacity-building assistance from the Ministry of Tourism.

He said the second phase of the project, with a lifetime Centre of 80,000 square feet and a class office and professional Park of 180,000 square feet, will be completed over the next three years.

“The investor group wishes again to thank the government of Guyana for the confidence placed in developing this project,” the businessman said.

President Dr Irfaan Ali, who was the feature speaker at the event, also expressed gratitude to the company for its confidence in Guyana’s economy.

“I commend the investors for this bold decision and for choosing Guyana. This hotel sends a clear message beyond our borders. It says Guyana is open, Guyana is confident, Guyana is serious about quality, we’re not waiting to be discovered, we are preparing to be chosen, chosen by investors, chosen by visitors, chosen by partners who value stability, ambition, and integrity,” he noted.

The President said this project is proof that when Regional and local investors unite around a shared Vision.

“We look forward to continuing the discussions as to how we further partner to make this investment a success. Because that is all the government of Guyana wants; you to be successful, you to continue to grow, and you to realise the ambition of your investment,” he said.

The hotel boasts 152 guest rooms, a lounge dubbed a modern social hub, a Pool & Pizza Bar, an area offering a blend of European and local snacks, beverages, and essentials, flexible event spaces, and more.

The President urge patrons visiting the facility to keep it clean. “We all have to be the best we can be. When these facilities are built, we have a collective responsibility to keep it the way it is. I’ve seen – not in Guyana alone but all over the world – people would go into a facility and leave the pipe on, or they just roll out the hand towels…All of that is about developing the mindset. We want a society in which we contribute to the success of each other,” he explained.

Dr Ali outlined several sectors, including healthcare, tourism, infrastructure, agriculture, and others, in which investments are ongoing to diversify and grow the local economy.

“And we don’t only express our development and investment agenda, we match it with the policy making Matrix. An investment regime…that support the priorities that we are pursuing,” he pointed out.

His points were supported by Dr Peter Ramsaroop, Guyana’s Chief Investment Officer, who noted that investors will keep coming to Guyana “because we will deliver on those commitments we have made as Government.”

Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Susan Rodrigues, in her remarks, noted that the presence of a globally respected brand, like AC Marriott, sends a very clear signal to the world that Guyana is ready, competitive, and open for business.

“This investment reinforces our growing reputation as a leading tourism destination, not only for leisure travellers but for business conferences and international investment. It also reflects the trust that Global brands have placed in our country,” she said on Saturday.

Over the past five years, the Minister pointed out that there has been an addition of 600 hotel rooms through six new hotels. At present, 15 hotels are under construction across the country, including other internationally recognised Brands, such as the Hyatt and Four Points by Sheraton.

Together, these projects are expected to add close to 2, 000 rooms to Guyana’s national inventory within the year.

“This rapid expansion is not accidental. It reflects strong investor confidence. A clear policy framework and a tourism sector. That is on a steady and upward trajectory. Tourism growth has always been supported by expanded airlift,” she emphasised.
