The driver involved in the crash that resulted in the death of 22-year-old Lakhram Etwaroo has been apprehended after fleeing the scene.
On Sunday, around 11:00h, Sumesh James, a resident of Number 36 Village, Corentyne Berbice, was driving his car, plate number PXX 9161, with his cousin, Etwaroo, as a passenger.
Reports indicate that James was traveling south at a high speed when he lost control of the vehicle. It collided with a GPL utility pole before crashing into a parked car, plate number PAE 7288, located on the eastern side of a concrete bridge.
Following the collision, bystanders extricated Etwaroo from the vehicle and rushed him to Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was examined by medical staff. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
James fled the scene but has since been arrested and is currently cooperating with the police investigation.
