U-13 trio receives cricket gear from agent Colin Bynoe Jr.

Licensed Guyanese cricket agent Colin Bynoe Jr. ‘paid it forward’ on Monday, presenting cricket gear to three budding Under-13 cricketers at the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) office on Regent Street, Georgetown.

The GCB aided the identification process, with one player from each of the three counties benefitting.

Seamer Adrian Emmanuel of Berbice, and all-rounders Demarcus Thomas of Essequibo and Hezekiah Hohenkirk of Demerara all received a full kit bag through a collaboration with GA Sports out of India.

The players, all of whom participated in the GCB Inter-County competition last year and subsequently represented Guyana in the Under-13 bilateral series against Barbados, received a bat, batting pads, gloves, leg guard and stickers.

Bynoe Jr. said the donation was birthed out of the constraints many parents face in properly equipping their young cricketers.

“My motivation was quite simple. Cricket kit is expensive, and the aim was to reach players at the very start of their journey,” Bynoe Jr. reasoned.

“This is a small contribution towards strengthening that foundation. Parents do face some challenges in securing a kit, so I thought it best to contribute in this way.”

He further explained that the gesture is something he had long wanted to do and expressed hope that it could become an annual initiative.

“I always wanted to do something like this. Hopefully it can be an annual gesture,” he said.

“At that age, Under-13 to 15, feeling that someone believes in you can be just as important as the kit itself. It builds confidence.”

Bynoe Jr. also shared words of encouragement to the young cricketers as they continue their development.

“My message to them is this: take your development seriously, respect your coaches and teammates, and always be willing to work when no one is watching,” he said.

The GCB, in a press release, said it welcomes the donation, noting that initiatives of this nature contribute meaningfully to the growth of cricket at the youth level across the three counties.

The three young men and their parents were all delighted to receive the gear, expressing their appreciation to Bynoe Jr. for the generous gesture.

Bynoe Jr. is the official agent of West Indies senior players Gudakesh Motie, Tevin Imlach and Alick Athanaze and West Indies Under-19 all-rounder Jonathan Van Lange among many others.
