Carpenter gunned down at Bare Root; couple being sought

Police are searching for a couple in connection with the fatal shooting of a 34-year-old carpenter along the Bare Root Access Road, Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara, on Sunday night.

The dead man has been identified as Homton Chichester, also known as “Orlando,” of Bare Root. The shooting occurred at about 19:30 hrs.

According to Police Headquarters, preliminary investigations revealed that Chichester’s body was found lying motionless along the roadway with suspected gunshot wounds to the chest and shoulder.

Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned, and he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

A motorcycle was also found at the scene and was secured as part of ongoing investigations.

Chichester’s body was escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police said investigators canvassed the area for CCTV cameras and retrieved footage, which is now being analysed. Several persons have since been contacted and questioned as the probe continues.

The News Room understands that Police are actively seeking a couple in relation to the investigation. Reports indicate that Chichester was recently involved in an altercation with a man from the Dazzle Housing Scheme, during which he was accused of having an affair with the man’s wife.

Investigations are ongoing.
