Dharry and Kassim world title bout shifted to March 28

Elton Dharry’s quest to become Guyana’s next world champion in boxing has been delayed with the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) receiving the necessary approval from the sanctioning body to reschedule the upcoming world title fight.

US-based Dharry has been pitted against Salmin Kassim of Tanzania for the IBO Super Bantamweight title. The bout, originally scheduled for February 14 at the Pegasus Suites and Corporate Centre, will now take place on March 28 at the same venue, the GBBC informed the media this week.

“The International Boxing Organisation (IBO) has officially approved a technically required extension of time for the holding of the contest to establish its Super Bantamweight World Champion,” the GBBC outlined in a press statement.

“All other facets of the card, including the much anticipated undercard, will remain the same.”

Dharry will step up from his customary 115lbs to 122lbs for the crucial encounter, dubbed a clash of experience and youth.

The 40-year-old Dharry has a professional record of 30-6-1, while 22-year-old Kassim has an unbeaten record of 10-0-2.

The other known fight confirmed for the card is a novelty clash between social media personalities Mikhail Rodrigues (The Guyanese Critic) and Bradley Sampson (Doggie).

The GBBC has expressed gratitude to the IBO, the Pegasus Suites and Corporate Centre, the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce; the Guyana Tourism Authority, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport; Comfort Sleep and Star Rentals “for their continued support in ensuring that we are able to bring this international world title event to Guyana and boxing audiences across the world.”
