The old-age pension for about 95,000 pensioners all across the country has increased from $41,000 to $46,000, while a new $20,000 transportation grant for these senior citizens has been introduced.
These were budgetary measures announced by Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh on Monday night during the presentation of the 2026 National Budget.
The Finance Minister said the pension will amount to $52 billion overall, while the new transportation grant will cost about $1.9 billion.
Meanwhile, Dr Singh said public assistance will increase from $22,000 to $25,000.
