A 33-year-old driver died after he was involved in a vehicle collision along the Diamond New Interlink Road, East Bank Demerara on Sunday night.
Dead is Jason Bhojedat of Annandale, East Coast Demerara.
Police Headquarters, in a statement, said investigations revealed that the collision which occurred around 23:30 hrs involved a minibus, BAK 8702 and a motor car, PKK 6633.
Bhojedat was the driver of the minibus. A 31-year-old man, who was a passenger in the minibus and the 28-year-old driver of the car, both of Diamond New Housing Scheme, sustained injuries and were treated at the Diamond Regional Hospital before being discharged.
He was also the Distillery Plant Manager at DDL.
According to Police Headquarters, preliminary reports suggest the car, traveling south in the eastern lane, attempted to overtake the minibus at high speed and struck its right rear.
“As a result of the impact, the minibus collided with a light pole, overturned several times and came to a halt on the western parapet,” Police Headquarters said.
Bhojedat was flung from the vehicle and fell onto the roadway in an unconscious state.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home for a post-mortem examination.
Police said the driver remains in Police custody and is assisting with the investigation.
“A breathalyser test was not conducted due to injuries he received to his mouth, which required stitches,” Police said.
Investigations are ongoing.
