G-Boats Inc renews seven-year commitment to Youth Basketball Guyana

Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) has secured a significant boost for its regional development plans after G-Boats Inc and Edison Chouest Offshore renewed their sponsorship for a seventh consecutive year.

The partnership, which has become a cornerstone of the country’s grassroots basketball scene, was formalised at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown in front of academy players and parents.

For Ross Chouest, representing the family-owned Edison Chouest Offshore, the investment is more than a corporate obligation—it is a reconnection with his own sporting heritage.

Chouest, who hailed from Louisiana as a standout high school prospect before playing collegiate basketball at Georgia Tech and Louisiana State University (LSU), watched a special exhibition game held in his honour at the ceremony.

“This partnership resonates with me personally,” Chouest said, reflecting on his own journey through the US collegiate system. “It brings back special memories of my own basketball journey and my family’s background in the sport.”

He emphasised that the values instilled by the game—discipline, teamwork, and persistence—are at the heart of the company’s continued support for the Guyanese youth system.

The funding is specifically targeted at YBG’s mission to take basketball beyond the capital and into Guyana’s outlying regions.

The year-round developmental structure provides a “purposeful” environment for hundreds of student-athletes who might otherwise lack access to coaching and facilities.

YBG Director Chris Bowman expressed his gratitude to the Chouest family, specifically President Gary Chouest, for their sustained confidence in the mission.

“This partnership has been pivotal,” Bowman said. “It has allowed us to sustain and expand our programmes, especially across the regions, and to uplift young athletes through a year-round structure.”

With the seventh year of the partnership now underway, YBG plans to intensify its regional scouting and league structures.
