A 34-year-old woman has been hospitalised after she was attacked by a masked man at La Grange, West Bank Demerara, on Tuesday night.
Police Headquarters reported that the woman was seated in her veranda with a few family members at around 19:00 hrs when a masked man attacked her.
She reportedly fled the house and ran into a neighbour’s yard. However, the man chased her, causing her to fall and sustain injuries to her head and body. The suspect subsequently discharged two rounds in her direction before making good his escape.
The woman was later taken to a private medical facility, where she was admitted and is presently receiving medical attention. A suspected 9mm spent shell was found and lodged. CCTV footage was identified in the vicinity and is to be extracted as part of the investigation.
Meanwhile, Police said a 39-year-old auto body technician of La Grange, West Bank Demerara, is presently in police custody as investigations continue.
