WOMEN’S SUPER50: Munisar and Gajnabi guide Guyana to five-wicket victory

Ashmini Munisar’s tactical flight and guile proved too much for Jamaica as Guyana commenced the Women’s Super50 Cup campaign with a comprehensive five-wicket victory at the Cumberland Playing Field in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

In a contest where spin accounted for every single wicket in the first innings, Guyana’s disciplined approach ensured they shook off a disappointing T20 Blaze run to secure early points.

Munisar’s off-spin accounted for 4-23 from six overs as Jamaica’s Chrishana McKenzie played a lone hand, grafting a patient 25 off 69 balls. Chedean Nation (12) and Kate Wilmott (10) were the only other batters to reach double figures before Tremaine Marks (2 for 7) and Kaysia Schultz (2 for 16) polished off the tail.

The seasoned Shabika Gajnabi provided the necessary calm as she anchored the chase with an unbeaten 23 off 44 deliveries.

Useful cameos from Sheneta Grimmond (17) and skipper Shemaine Campbelle (12) ensured that Guyana crossed the line in the 27th over with five wickets to spare.

Guyana will now travel to Park Hill on Thursday for a clash against Trinidad and Tobago from 09:30h.
