The Guyana Mixed Martial Arts Federation (GYMMAF) welcomes the $6 billion Government of Guyana’s funding for sports, fostering nation’s health and prosperity. This investment in human capital will contribute significantly to the growth of MMA in Guyana.
The sports sector has been receiving significant attention and investment under President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s administration. Since 2020, the government has allocated over G$21 billion toward sports development, marking a historic level of funding. This investment has led to the construction of new sports facilities, upgrades to existing ones, and support for national teams competing internationally.
The leadership of Minister Charles Ramson Jr. and Minister Steven Jacobs has been instrumental in driving Guyana’s sports development forward. Their efforts to modernise the country’s sporting eco-system are yielding positive results, with notable improvements in athlete performance and increased participation in various sports
Under their guidance, Guyana has been investing heavily in sports infrastructure, including the construction of state-of-the-art facilities and the upgrade of existing ones. The government’s commitment to sports development is also reflected in its support for national teams and athletes competing internationally.
The GYMMAF’s commitment to supporting Guyana’s development goals is commendable. Structured programmes and modern facilities can go a long way in promoting youth development and women’s empowerment.

The GYMMAF is pleased to also announce, a good start to its calendar year with sending a nine-person team to Trinidad for the National Championships at the Woodbrook Youth Facility on January 31, 2026. This event is part of the Trinidad and Tobago Mixed Martial Arts Federation (TT-MMAF) National Invitational MMA Championship, which will feature elite amateur athletes from across the Caribbean and South America.
