Commanding centuries from Nathan Bishop and Lomar Seecharran powered Georgetown to an emphatic 397-run win over East Bank in the opening round of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Under-16 Inter-Association 50-over competition on Saturday at the Lusignan Ground.
In the other first round game at LBI Ground, West Demerara defeated East Coast by six wickets in comparatively low-scoring showdown.
Bishop and Seecharran- both of the Demerara Cricket Club- pulverised the East Bank bowling as Georgetown piled up a daunting 431-4 from the allotted 50 overs.
The foundation for the onslaught was laid by an opening stand of 77 between Seecharran and Neerav Persaud, who made 22 off 44 (3x4s).
The right-handed Bishop slammed eight fours and seven sixes in his 152, which spanned 102 balls, while left-hander Seecharran continued his meteoric rise in youth cricket with a polished 130 off 116 balls (9x4s, 5x6s).
The pair added 198 for the second wicket, before their clubmate Makai Dowlin, the son of former Guyana and West Indies cricketer Travis Dowlin, joined in the run spree by hitting a brisk 53 not out off 30 balls (2x4s, 2x6s).
At the fall of Seecharran, Bishop and Dowlin added 121 for the third wicket.
In reply, East Bank crashed to 34 all out from 18 overs, with extras being 23. Leg-spinner Wasim Ali picked up 4-3, while seamers Prosper Jacobus (2-3), Afraz Khan (2-5) and Jasane Craig (2-16) were also among the wickets.
Over at LBI, Ishan Harricharran (3-6 and 43*) and Dhirendra Shivepersaud (5-18) had impactful individual performances in West Demerara’s win over East Coast.
