Assistant Director of Sport, Franklin Wilson, has confirmed that some matches in the MODEC Tertiary Education Football tournament will be held at the new Bayroc National Stadium in Linden, which officially opens on Saturday, February 7.
The announcement came on Tuesday, as the Petra Organisation revealed that Banks DIH, through its Powerade brand, has joined in support of the inaugural tournament, which kicks off on February 8.
Wilson indicated that approval has been granted to host the Linden leg matches at the new facility.
Wilson charged the players to “grab the opportunity” both to showcase their talent on the field and to elevate their academic careers, as some of the sponsors could be paying close attention.
Joao Soares, Technical Manager at title sponsor MODEC, highlighted the social impact of the initiative: “Football and education are the two best tools we have for youth development. We are looking forward to the talent on display.”
14 institutions will contest the tournament, which will be played in each county in a home-and-away knockout format.
Teams advancing to the last eight will be outfitted with branded tournament uniforms.

University of Guyana Turkeyen, University of Guyana Tain, Cyril Potter College of Education, Government Technical Institute, Linden Technical Institute, Port Mourant Technical Institute, New Amsterdam Technical Institute, Mahaicony Technical Institute, Essequibo Technical Institute, Upper Corentyne Technical Training Centre, Texila American University, Guyana School of Agriculture, Leonora Technical and Vocational Training Centre and Guyana Industrial Training Centre are the competing institutions.
The opening day will see the University of Guyana against the Guyana Industrial Training Centre at the Queen’s College Ground from 13:00h, followed by Texila American University against the Government Technical Institute from 15:30h.
The tournament is scheduled to conclude on March 8, 2026, with the champion team guaranteed G$300,000, the runner-up G$200,000, the third G$100,000, and the fourth G$50,000.
Other sponsors are the Machinery Corporation of Guyana (MACORP). Demerara Mutual Life Assurance Society, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, MVP Sports, Skytech and Quality Delivery.
