The Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Inter-Association Under-19, 50-over competition opened on Wednesday with contrasting wins for Georgetown and East Coast.
While the powerful Georgetown side thumped East Bank by eight wickets in a low-scoring affair at the Police Ground, East Coast edged West Demerara by six runs at the Meten-Meer-Zorg Ground.
At Police, Georgetown bowlers combined to dismiss East Bank for a paltry 38 from 19.2 overs with seamer Emmanuel Lewis and skipper Dave Mohabir taking three wickets apiece.
New-ball pair Shane Prince and Stephon Seymour picked up two wickets each for Georgetown, who coasted to victory in 7.1 overs.
Over at the Meten-Meer-Zorg Ground, home team West Demerara were dismissed for 120 after East Coast batted first and made 126. Tashant Argyle made a half-century in a losing cause for West Demerara.
