A 27-year-old resident of Non- Pariel, East Coast Demerara, was arrested on Tuesday after he was caught with an unlicensed gun.
Police Headquarters reported that ranks were informed that a man allegedly discharged a loaded firearm around 04:44 hrs Tuesday, at Buxton Middle Walk, East Coast Demerara.
Acting on the information, Police reportedly proceeded to a location in the vicinity of a wash bay, where they made contact with a 27-year-old miner of Non Pareil, who was seen entering a motor vehicle.
A search conducted on the male led to the discovery of a 9mm pistol concealed on his person. The firearm was fitted with a magazine containing seven matching rounds of ammunition. The suspect was asked if he was the holder of a firearm licence and indicated that he was not. He was arrested and escorted to the Vigilance Police Station.
The firearm and ammunition were lodged, and the motor vehicle in which he was seen entering was also lodged pending investigation.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
