Police are probing the discovery of human remains following a fire this week, which destroyed two houses at Bee Hive Village, East Coast Demerara.
A release from Police Headquarters said the fire occurred sometime between 23:50hrs on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, and 01:00hrs on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
The fire destroyed the home of Davanand Sawh, called “Cheow,” 62, unemployed, of Bee Hive Village, East Coast Demerara, as well as the home of Vidishwar Ramkissoon, 64, a farmer also of Bee Hive Village, East Coast Demerara.
Police ranks visited the scene where both buildings were destroyed by fire. The Guyana Fire Service also responded and extinguished the blaze.
After the fire was extinguished, searches were conducted among the debris and what appeared to be human remains, suspected to be those of Davanand Sawh, were discovered at the premises.
The remains were escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where they are awaiting a post-mortem examination.
No other persons were reported injured during the incident.
