Applications open for green innovation grants for small businesses

The 2026 Green Technology Fund has been launched, offering grants of up to $1.2 million to support small businesses developing environmentally sustainable solutions.

The initiative, managed by the Small Business Bureau under the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, aims to promote climate-smart innovation while strengthening the country’s push towards a greener economy.

The fund targets entrepreneurs and small businesses seeking to adopt eco-friendly practices or develop new green technologies, as Guyana continues to prioritise sustainability alongside economic growth.

Since its launch in 2020, the programme has supported 53 businesses with more than 54 million Guyana dollars invested in projects such as drone-based fertilisation, organic fertiliser production and digital business tools.

Applicants must submit detailed proposals outlining their innovation, including financial projections, environmental impact and technical requirements. Shortlisted candidates will be required to pitch their ideas before a panel, with successful applicants receiving funding to implement their projects.

The deadline for applications is May 31, with officials encouraging entrepreneurs to use the fund to scale environmentally sustainable ventures and contribute to a more resilient economy.

The government says the programme forms part of broader efforts to support small businesses and expand green enterprise development across the country.
