The Guyana Police Force has launched an investigation into a report of Simple Larceny involving approximately $5 million (GYD), which was allegedly stolen from the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).
According to the police, several GECOM employees are currently assisting investigators with the probe.
A portion of the missing funds was reportedly recovered by detectives and was found in the possession of an Assistant Accounts Clerk, who has since been taken into custody.
The individual remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the exact circumstances surrounding the alleged theft or whether additional arrests are expected.
The Guyana Police Force has confirmed that the matter remains under active investigation.
