By Avenash Ramzan

Demerara played unbeaten to win the Guyana Cricket Board Under-13 Inter-County 40-over competition on Tuesday, winning their final round match against the Select XI by a huge margin at the Lusignan Ground.

Half-centuries from in-form skipper Lomar Seecharran, fellow opener Nathaniel Ramkhelwan and Afraz Khan powered Demerara to 232-3, before the bowlers dismissed Select XI for 52 to win by 180 runs with Deshawn Ramnauth taking a five-wicket haul.

Over at the LBI Ground, 2023 and 2024 champions Essequibo ended the tournament with a five-wicket win over Berbice in a low-scoring affair.

The star of the match was Essequibo skipper Demarcus Thomas, who picked up 6-14, including five wickets in one over, with his medium-pace.

At Lusignan: Demerara thumped Select XI by 180 runs

Opting to bat first, Demerara put up their second consecutive 200+ total, with an opening stand of 98 in 15.2 overs between Seecharran and Ramkhelwan laying a solid foundation.

Ramkhelwan made 64 off 67 (4x4s, 1×6), while Seecharran struck a brisk 55 off 53 (6x4s, 1×6) to finish the competition with 218 runs, the most by a distance.

After Ajay Kissoon fell for eight off 31, Khan and Ramnauth flayed the Select XI bowling in an unbroken fourth wicket stand of 81 in 14.5 overs. Khan, promoted up the order, struck three fours in his unbeaten 52 off 53, while Ramnauth ended on 24 off 40 (2x4s).

Aaron DaCosta, Daniel Johnson and Andrew Narine picked up a wicket each for the Select XI, who never really challenged the total when they batted.

Johnson and opener Afridi Khan with 10 apiece were the only players into double-figures as Ramnauth bagged 5-5 and Jasani Craig 3-8.
