A superb all-round performance from Nityanand Mathura and a four-wicket haul from off-spinner Devindra Krishnalall highlighted a commanding eight-wicket victory for Everest against Diplomats on Sunday (October 19) in the Georgetown Cricket Association’s NBS Second Division 40-over cricket competition.
In the other match last weekend, Guyana Defence Force (GDF) lost a close, high-scoring encounter against Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO), despite a fine century from middle-order batsman Shamal Angel.
At DCC: Everest defeated Diplomats by eight wickets
SUMMARY: Diplomats 101 all out from 26.1 overs (Deryck Babb 46, Munesh Outar 22; Nityanand Mathura 4-3, Devindra Krishnalall 4-12) vs Everest 102-2 from 12.4 overs (Nityanand Mathura 46*, Varun Mangla 39; Andre Foster 1-30, Quancy Cummings 1-37)
Mathura, who played for the Select XI in the Queensway Security Service Inc. Senior Super50 Inter-County Cup, starred with bat and ball to lift Everest to a dominant victory.
With ball, the leg-spinner snared 4-3 off fours and received solid support from Krishnalall, who bagged 4-12 off 7.1 overs of right-arm off-spinner, as Diplomats made 101 in 26.1 overs.
Opener Deryck Babb topscored with 46 off 62 (7x4s, 1×6) and Munesh Outar made 22 off 39 (4x4s).
Mathura then struck an unbeaten 46 off 33 balls (6x4s, 1×6) and opener Varun Mangla mde 39 off 25 (8x4s) to spur Everest to an eight-wicket win in just 12.4 overs.

Set a target of 301, GDF came close, being bowled out for 292 with three balls remaining. Angel was the standout performer in the match, slamming 114 off 86 balls.
The right-hander, batting at number five, struck 12 fours and five sixes and received support from Michael Deonarine with 48 off 35 (5x4s, 4x6s), Rockael Reddy with 21 off 37 (2x4s) and Christopher Deonarine 21 off 13 (3x4s, 1×6).
Albion trio Gaurav Ramesh (3-51), Leon Cecil (2-23) and Kelvin Umroa (2-36) were the leading wicket-takers for MYO.
MYO’s 300-9 was built on a 45-ball 61 from Albion batsman Damion Cecil, who struck eight fours and three sixes, and Ricky Debydial, who made 50 off 60 (5x4s, 1×6).
Also chipping in with Leon Cecil (30), Keon Morris (28), Kelvin Umroa (26), Travis Kadir (23) and Dexter Solomon (21). Bowling for GDF, Rashaad Gaffur and Angel picked up two wickets each.
