Action heated up in the Berbice Football Association (BFA) Senior Men’s League this week, with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport-sponsored competition drawing larger crowds on its second day at the All Saints Ground in New Amsterdam.
Three matches were played, delivering comeback victories for Paradise FC and Ithaca FC, while Cougars FC secured a dominant win.
Paradise FC 2-1 Fyrish FC
Paradise completed the day’s most dramatic comeback. Fyrish struck first in the 21st minute through Keyshan Mingo, capitalising on a defensive error.
However, the lead was short-lived as Anthony Lynch levelled the scores just two minutes later. Ronaldo Gorden sealed Paradise’s 2-1 victory early in the second half (46th minute).
Ithaca FC 2-1 Trafalgar Titans
Ithaca started strong, with Garson Baker netting in the seventh minute before Neil Lonlton doubled the advantage four minutes later.
Trafalgar halved the deficit through Michael Williams in the 26th minute, but Ithaca’s defense held firm for the remainder of the match to secure the 2-1 win.
Cougars FC 2-0 Kildonan
Cougars secured their first win of the league following an opening-day draw.
Forward William Summersett scored a brace in the 21st and 48th minutes to seal the 2-0 result.
Kildonan’s goalkeeper, Shamar Emanuelson, was credited with several strong saves that prevented a wider margin of defeat.
League action shifts to the Number 5 Ground, West Berbice, on Friday for a double-header: Cougars face Ithaca, followed by Paradise taking on Trafalgar Titans.
