The fourth annual ExxonMobil Guyana/New Era Enetertainment Futsal Tournament has launched in Linden.
It offers a championship prize of $1.5 million and emphasises a commitment to public health awareness.
The 2025 edition of the tournament, running from November 7–29, is dedicated to increasing awareness of men’s health and the issue of domestic violence under the theme “Live Well, Live Strong,” in partnership with the Regional Health Department.
The championship will feature 13 teams competing at the Retrieve Tarmac.
It will initially be divided into four groups, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the knockout stage.
Each team will receive an appearance fee of $40,000 once they complete the group stage.
Ryan Hoppie, Community Relations Supervisor for ExxonMobil Guyana, emphasized the event’s role beyond competition.
“This tournament is more than a competition; it fosters teamwork, discipline, respect, and will provide opportunities to young people to benefit educationally and economically,” he stated, highlighting the strategic investment in community cohesion and promoting healthy lifestyles.
Dr. Gregory Harris of the Ministry of Health confirmed the alignment with national goals, noting that the tournament provides an innovative platform to promote health and wellness in the region.
Wainewright Bethune, President of the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA), praised the tournament organizers, stating that ExxonMobil Guyana and New Era Entertainment have become the region’s “most consistent and longest standing football development partners.”
The competing teams include Fearless, Silver Bullets, Salah Family, Young Gunners, Hardball Management, and Bombers.
The tournament features significant financial rewards and incentives for both players and the community:
- First Place: G$1,500,000
- Second Place: G$750,000
- Third Place: G$350,000
- MVP Award: A motorcycle
- Academic Grant: A G$300,000 economic grant for a player or fan for academic development.
