The People’s Youth Organisation (PYO) officially launched the H. Ramballi and Advance Construction Solutions Tapeball Cricket Tournament on Thursday, marking the start of what is expected to be a thrilling, high-stakes spectacle of local cricket talent in Region Two.
Twenty teams from across the region are set to compete, with a significant prize of G$1,000,000 awaiting the eventual champions, and the runners-up pocketing G$500,000.
Tournament Organizer Azizi Christiani, also the Head of the PYO Sports Committee, assured fans that they could anticipate “high quality and stiff competition.”
Title sponsor Harischan Ramballi underlined his commitment to the sport, stating his desire to provide positive avenues for the region’s youth. Ramballi, a veteran investor in cricket, also hinted at a forthcoming initiative explicitly aimed at junior cricketers to aid youth development further.
Christiani detailed the event’s structure and announced an exciting addition to the final night: a female exhibition match intended to showcase and encourage women’s growing participation in the sport.
Regional Vice Chairman Humace Oudit praised the PYO’s work and highlighted the competition’s role in fostering social cohesion.
“This tournament is a platform for engagement, camaraderie, and healthy competition,” Oudit remarked, stressing that the event reflected the “true spirit of ‘One Guyana’.”
