Police in Regional Division #2 are investigating a tragic accident along the Danielstown Public Road, Essequibo Coast, which claimed the life of 18-year-old Enrico Rodriguez and left another man hospitalised on Thursday evening.
According to the Police, the fatal crash occurred at around 22:00 hrs and involved a motorcycle driven by a 23-year-old labourer of Charity Extension Scheme, Essequibo Coast, who was at the time accompanied by Rodriguez, also a labourer from the same community.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the motorcycle was proceeding south along the Danielstown Public Road when it collided with a cow that had wandered onto the roadway. The impact caused both riders to be flung onto the asphalt, resulting in severe injuries.
Public-spirited residents quickly responded and assisted in transporting the injured men to the Lima Regional Hospital. However, Rodriguez was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending doctor, while the driver was admitted under police guard as investigations continue.
