Labourer, 29, allegedly drowns at Annandale

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged drowning of Jagadhwar Mohan, a 29-year-old labourer of Lusignan Pasture, East Coast Demerara.

The man is believed to have drowned sometime between 07:10 hrs and 07:25 hrs on Saturday at Annandale Access Road/Sideline Dam, East Coast Demerara.

Police Headquarters said enquiries revealed that Mohan was in the company of two men, collecting ‘puri leaf’ from a trench in the area, when he reportedly slipped into a deep section of the waterway and became submerged. He was later pulled from the water in an unconscious state by the men, and subsequently pronounced dead by Emergency Medical Technicians who responded to the scene.

The body was examined by investigators and showed no marks of violence. It has since been escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home for storage pending a post-mortem examination.

Investigations are continuing.
