A 17-year-old labourer of Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara was fatally stabbed on Saturday and his body was found by his co-workers.
According to Police Headquarters, an investigation was launched over the alleged murder of the boy identified as Gaurav Bhagwan of Cane Grove.
The incident occurred around 21:30hrs on Saturday at Loo Creek, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
Reports indicate that Bhagwan and several co-workers were engaged in a road and drainage project when a loud scream was heard. Upon checking, one of the workers discovered Bhagwan lying motionless with apparent stab wounds.
A 36-year-old labourer from La Belle Alliance, Essequibo Coast, was reportedly found nearby and restrained by colleagues until police arrived. He is now in custody assisting with the investigation.
Bhagwan was taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His body is at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police investigations are continuing.
