Guyanese cricket umpires excel at WICUA Level Three exam

The Guyana Cricket Umpires Council (GCUC) is celebrating a 100% success rate for its candidates in the recently held West Indies Cricket Umpires Association (WICUA) 2025 Practical and Oral Level Three Examination.

All three Guyanese candidates- Dharam Singh, Tejram Baldeo and Heathcliff Peters- who completed the rigorous certification process achieved the required pass mark of 80%.

The overall examination, which attracted 43 candidates across the Caribbean and North America, was done on October 26.

Singh was the top performer for Guyana with 96%, followed by Baldeo (94.80%) and Peters (93%). The Guyanese now possess the highest official qualification for regional umpiring.

The GCUC said: “The performance of the Guyanese contingent was particularly noteworthy, with all three candidates demonstrating exceptional preparation and skill.”

GCUC President and WICUA Area Four VP Dawchan Nagasar extended congratulations to the three outstanding candidates, noting that their collective achievement is nothing short of brilliant.

“The journey to Level Three is a challenging one, and you have all risen to the occasion with distinction. To all umpires, let this achievement serve as inspiration,” Nagasar said.

“As the WICUA emphasised, success is achieved not by sudden flight, but by being resilient in pursuit and putting in the extra work. I encourage all our members to continue attending training classes, study the laws, and participate in as many practical sessions as possible.”
