Man arrested nearly a month after fatal Enmore hit-and-run

Police have arrested Ganesh Racktoo, 55, nearly a month after a hit-and-run incident on the East Coast Demerara that claimed the life of a man.

Racktoo, of Lot 365 Enmore, East Coast Demerara, was taken into custody on Monday, November 24, in connection with the October 25 fatal accident. He faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving.

The incident occurred on Saturday, October 25, around 17:50hrs on Enmore Access Road. Police investigations revealed that 43-year-old Charran Suresh of Newtown, Enmore, was standing on the eastern side of the roadway when he was struck by a northbound mini-bus. The driver reportedly fled the scene without rendering assistance.

Suresh was initially treated at the Enmore Regional Hospital before being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was admitted for further care.

Authorities had launched a public appeal for information about the driver, sharing Racktoo’s details and urging anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts to contact police. The appeal remained active until his arrest nearly four weeks later.

Investigations into the incident continue as police work to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the collision.
