Guyana and Barbados set for final showdown at ENet Senior CASA

The 2025 ENet Senior Caribbean Squash Championships will conclude in a highly anticipated final confrontation, as hosts Guyana and arch-rivals Barbados prepare to face off for the overall team title this afternoon at the National Racquet Centre.

The regional powerhouses secured their places in the ultimate showdown after comfortable victories in Friday’s semi-finals at the Georgetown Club Courts.

In the Men’s semi-finals, Guyana defeated Bermuda 3-1, while Barbados overcame Jamaica 4-1.

The women’s team championship, contested in a round-robin format, has come down to the final match between the two currently unbeaten teams.

The tie begins this morning at 09:00h, with Barbados starting as favourites.

Barbados boasts significant individual strength, anchored by individual champion Megan Best and former champion Margot Prow, as well as Amanda Haywood, a top-four seed in the individual segment.

However, Guyana will counter with its own formidable lineup, led by the 2022 Caribbean Champion and this year’s individual bronze medallist, Ashley Khalil, along with Mary Fung-A-Fat.

The result of the women’s tie could hinge on three key matchups:

Taylor Fernandes-Henry against Amanda Haywood; Kirsten Gomes against Eboni Atherly and Larissa Wiltshire against Sumairaa Suleman.

Should Guyana’s women win the division, it would provide a crucial lead in their bid to secure a fifth consecutive overall team title.

Daniel Ince was in fine form against Micah Franklin in the semi-finals on Friday evening

The Men’s final is expected to be a tense affair, with Barbados relying heavily on three-time men’s individual champion Khamal Cumberbatch.

Cumberbatch is heavily tipped to defeat Guyana’s top-seeded player, Daniel Ince, once again.

However, the team’s result will depend on the depth of the matchups below the top seed: Guyana’s Sunil Seth vs. Barbados’ Darien Benn, and Samuel Ince-Carvalhal’s performance against the experienced Shawn Simpson.

With players like Shomari Wiltshire and Jason-Ra Khalil also featuring on the men’s roster, Guyana will look to leverage home-court advantage and depth to overcome Barbados’s individual star power.

In the veteran categories, the Guyana Women’s Vets have already secured their division title. The Guyana Men’s Vets team is currently third, having suffered a loss to Jamaica, and faces an uphill battle against the unbeaten Barbados veterans.
