Unbeaten Berbice to face Essequibo in Female Inter-County final; Millington, Schultz and Persaud star with ball

Unbeaten Berbice will put their title on the line against Essequibo in the final of the Guyana Cricket Board/Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport Senior Female Inter-County 50-over Championship on Thursday at the LBI Ground.

The teams sealed their places in the championship game- set to start at 09:000h- with victories in a low-scoring third round on Tuesday at the Lusignan and LBI Grounds.

On the individual side, there were outstanding performances from the experienced trio Plaffiana Millington (Berbice), Kaysia Schultz (Demerara) and Kumarie Persaud (Essequibo).

At LBI: Berbice defeated Demerara by four wickets

SUMMARY: Demerara 72 all out from 36.4 overs (Tilleya Madramootoo 18, Extras 28; Plaffiana Millington 5-10, Devani Rickram 2-0, Sherica Campbell 1-5, Tiea Isaacs 1-15) vs Berbice 73-6 from 18 overs (Sheneta Grimmond 24, Plaffiana Millington 21*; Kaysia Schultz 6-30)

Led by a splendid all-round effort from the unflappable Millington, Berbice recorded their third win on the trot to remain the only unbeaten team in the tournament.

First with ball, Millington delivered a magical spell of 5-10, bowling nine overs, five of which were maidens, as Demerara were skittled out for 72. The off-spinner delivered 50 dot balls in a spell that rocked the hosts’ batting.

Devani Rickram (2-0), Sherica Campbell (1-5) and Tiea Isaacs (1-15) played the supporting role, as only opener Tilleya Madramootoo got into double figures with 18 off 64 balls (2x4s). Extras were 28.

Demerara skipper Kaysia Schultz then ripped through Berbice batting with 6-30, but her efforts were in vain as the ‘ladies in red’ rebounded from a precarious position of 22-5 to win by four wickets.

Skipper Sheneta Grimmond made 24 off 20 (3x4s) and Player-of-the-Match Millington saw it to the end with a composed 21 not out off 40 balls (3x4s) to deny Demerara.

Schultz is now the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 13, four ahead of Millington, who has a chance to add to her tally in the final.

At Lusignan: Essequibo defeated Hinterland All-Stars by eight wickets

SUMMARY: Hinterland All-Stars 50 all out from 22.5 overs (Kelsey Couchman 10, Extras 15; Kumarie Persaud 4-14, Tremaine Marks 3-14, Yonette Welcome 1-3, Analesia D’Aguiar 1-7) vs Essequibo 51-2 from 11.1 overs (Kumarie Persaud 17, Extras 15; Feona Benjamin 1-14, Tifeny La Rose 1-23)

With two wins and a defeat, Essequibo has done enough to qualify for the final, finishing second behind Berbice after the preliminary phase.

Captain Kelsey Couchman made 10 off 28 balls, hitting the only boundary of the innings, as Extras topscored with 15.

Opener Persaud then stroked 17 off 19 (2x4s) to lead Essequibo’s successful run-chase, with Feona Benjamin (1-14) and Tifeny La Rose (1-23) the wicket-takers for the winless Hinterland All-Stars.
