The Guyana Police Force is investigating the discovery of firearms, ammunition, and cash following an operation conducted on Wednesday, at Redwood Crescent, Mackenzie, Linden. A 30-year-old businessman residing at the address was taken into custody during the operation.
Police conducted a search of the house and, in a bedroom on the upper flat, found a suspected Glock 19 9mm pistol, a suspected Polymer80 9mm pistol, six magazines, and a total of 56 rounds of 9mm ammunition concealed beneath the flooring.
Further searches revealed $6,915,000 and US$7,445 stored in a wardrobe in the same bedroom.
The 30-year-old remains in police custody as the suspected firearms, ammunition, and cash are lodged pending further investigation. Authorities say inquiries are ongoing as they work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the discovery.
The seizure comes amid a spate of recent firearms recoveries across Guyana, highlighting ongoing concerns about illegal weapons circulation in the country.
